Abstract

The search for materials that present good thermoelectric efficiency has intensified in recent years. However, this has been a great challenge since the parameters that determine the efficiency of all the thermoelectric materials (electrical conductivity, thermal conductivity and thermoelectric potential) are interdependent, thus becoming extremely difficult to optimize the efficiency. In this project, we consider the study of new thermoelectric materials, as well as their characterization and evaluation of the physical properties. The central focus of this project consists of searching for better understanding of the physical properties of these materials at low and high temperatures, using as a starting point the compound family A14MPn11 (A = Ca, Yb, Er; Pn = As, Sb and Bi), in which Yb14MgSb11 showed to be a promising thermoelectric material of the type-p at high temperatures.
