Abstract

The intense changes in Brazilian society promoted by the advance of capitalism in the field and in the city and the intense urbanization process have caused the conceptual definitions that differentiate rural and urban areas simply by degrees of artificiality and relationship with the natural environment lose their explanatory and require new ways of understanding these relations. This dynamic, when considered in small municipalities, presents itself as even more complex, which is mainly the fragile nature of these urban locations. The municipality of Dracena-SP, selected as the spatial area of research, presents aspects that allow reflection on the relationship between town and field, especially when we launched a look at the social and economic importance that small landowners that have municipality.(AU)
