Abstract

The Williams-Beuren syndrome (SWB) is caused by a microdeletion of genes located in the region 7q11.23. The SWB started to be studied in our country by multidisciplinary in early 2000. However, there is still limited knowledge on the incidence of psychiatric disorders in WBS and the impact of these symptoms in daily life activities and quality of life. The aim of this project is to identify possible psychiatric disorders in individuals with SWB. The group of individuals with SWB will be composed of 15 individuals from 11-16 years old with a clinical and cytogenetics diagnosis of the syndrome. The control group will consist of 15 individuals, matched for age-, gender, social-economic status, and region of residence with the patients. Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ) to screen for psychiatric disorders, and an assessment of the quality of life for the Avaliação de Qualidade de Vida em Crianças e Adolescentes (AUQEI) scale will be applied. Group differences in the overall and sub-itens scores of the SDQ and AUQEI will be analyzed using statistical software - SPSS v. 15.0. The statistical test will be chosen based on the distribution of the data. Thus, this study will evaluate the possible consequences of psychiatric disorders on the quality of life of these subjects.(AU)
