Comparative cephalometric evaluation of Class II malocclusion treatment with First Class distalizer in conventional and skeletal anchorage and cervical headgear followed by fixed orthodontic appliance

Abstract

The aim of this longitudinal study was to evaluate the dental, skeletal and soft tissue changes in youngsters with Class II malocclusion treated with cervical headgear or First Class distalizer in two different types of anchorage followed by fixed orthodontic appliance and compare them with a control group. Seventy patients will be included and divided in four groups: G1 (treated with First Class distalizers with conventional anchorage in Nance button), G2 (treated with First Class distalizers with skeletal anchorage supported in two palatal mini-implants), G3 (treated with cervical headgear) e o G4 (control group, with untreated patients). Lateral cephalometric radiographs of G1 (15 patients), G2 (15 patients) and G3 (20 patients) will be taken on the initiation of treatment (T1), after molar distalization and correction of Class II malocclusion (T2) and in the end of the treatment with fixed appliance (T3), a total of 150 radiographs in order to the cephalometric analysis and evaluation of dental, skeletal and soft tissue changes and to compare them with a control group (G4 with 20 patients) in the times T1 and T3, which comprising 40 radiographs . Statistical analysis was performed by ANOVA repeated measures and Tukey to verify the changes occurred in the same group in the three differents times and by Oneway ANOVA to verify the difference between the groups. The systematic and casual errors will be calculated as well.
