Abstract

There are several remediation technologies for the direct removal of organic contaminants, which increase the biodegradation potential of these pollutants in contaminated areas. Wastewater treatment using advanced oxidation processes (AOP) is almost always performed ex situ. The process is based on the generation of the highly oxidizing (EÚ=2.08V) hydroxyl radical, OHÙ, which enables the rapid degradation of a wide variety of organic compounds, and is used mainly as an alternative method for recalcitrant compounds. Thus, the purpose of this work is to test the application of an in situ soil washing method, using tensioactive agents and hydrogen peroxide that can mobilize and solubilize the contaminant, enabling them to degrade naphthalene in soil.
