Abstract

The low availability of P in soil is a major constraint to the optimal development of plants in tropical regions. The efficiency of nutrient use by plants is the result of mutual influence between the processes of absorption, transport, redistribution and metabolism. Several studies have demonstrated the need to improve P utilization, especially in areas where concentrations of soil P are considered low due to soil genesis and / or insufficient application of fertilizers. Plants original or adapted to soils with low P concentrations tend to develop a more effective mechanism of roots exploration, increasing the length and density of them. Therefore, the objective is to present work to evaluate the influence of root architecture of upland rice and beans related to the efficiency of P uptake in Cerrado soils, seeking to bring the discussion to improve the plant's capacity to absorb P in tropical soils. Will conduct an experiment under field conditions and two in the greenhouse. The experiment I, in the greenhouse will be conducted with the aim of select among 20 genotypes of upland rice and 20 genotypes of common bean, efficient material in absorbing P, using the technique of isotopic dilution of 32P. The experiment II in field conditions, will aim to assess and characterize root architecture of 20 genotypes of upland rice and 20 genotypes of common bean, and calculate the nutritional efficiency of these genotypes, and compare the results of experiment I. Based on the results of experiments I and II the experiment III, in a greenhouse, intention is assess the availability of P stimulates the modification of root architecture along the soil profile, by double staining of the soil profile with the radioisotope 32P and 33P.
