Abstract

The squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) is a very common malignancy in horses mainly in the third eyelid, where the occurrence is due to the excessive exposure to sunlight. Ocular tumors are common in veterinary ophthalmology and there is no effective treatment for this disease, where the only treatment suggested by the literature is the removal of the tumor with chemotherapy. The current trend of stem cell research is the hope of these cells revolutionize conventional treatments in diseases. The yolk sac stem cells belong to the Stem Cell Bank, Department of Surgery, Department of Anatomy of Domestic Animals and Wild, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of São Paulo. Samples of squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) will be obtained in horses at the Veterinary Hospital of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of São Paulo. This work aims to establish and characterize tumor cell lines of squamous cell carcinoma ER / PR + and ER/PR- used as an experimental model, and a tool for the study of cell biology for the development of new therapeutic strategies associated with cells trunk of the equine yolk sac.
