Abstract

Previous studies of our group have shown that low concentrations (non-toxic) of antineoplastic agents positively modulated dendritic cells, favoring their in-vitro maturation and improving their antigen presentation function. The effects on colorectal cancer cells were also investigated, and it was observed an increased immunogenicity and susceptibility to cytotoxic T lymphocytes. However, it has not been evaluated the effects of treatment on peripheral blood lymphocytes, key cells involved in antitumor resistance. Thereby, this study aims to investigate the effect of 5-fluorouracil and AZA, at minimum effective (MEC) and non-toxic (NTC) concentrations as previously determined for tumor cells, on lymphocytes of normal individuals. Initially we will investigate whether the selected doses have direct toxic activity on lymphocytes and then evaluate its effects on the proliferative activity of these cells.(AU)
