Abstract

This study aims to contribute to the development of pulping and bleaching processes more energy efficient, from hydrotopes pré-treatments of wood chips, as well as introducing biorefinery concepts and possible uses of the compounds extracted during the pre-treatments. The biomass to be used in this study is the timber of the hybrid Eucalyptus grandis x Eucalyptus urophylla, which is obtained in the form of chips, and classified into loops 4 to 6 mm, with subsequent air-drying, and storage in polyethylene bags to conduct the remaining steps of the study. Next will be held on morphological and chemical characterization of the same, and the basic density of wood chips. The pre-treatment to be applied to wood chips is through the use of hydrotopes xilenosulfonato sodium compound, applied in different concentrations, times and temperatures. After completing the pre-treatment residual liquor is collected for analysis of pH, the yield will be determined as well as the content of lignin in wood chips pretreated. The best pre-treatment (higher yield and extraction of lignin) will be subjected to a curve characterizing the Kraft pulping process with different alkaline charges, which will be compared to the chip without pre-treatment, both with and without addition of anthraquinone in a proportion of 0.05% in mass of wood. The main objective of this development curve of cooking is to evaluate the amount of alkali charge required for certain levels of delignification (expressed as kappa number). From the characterization curve, the load will be observed that providing alkaline kappa number close to 18 ± 2, which will be played again the next steps for conducting the study, among which is the process of delignification and bleaching. After each stage of the process of pulping and bleaching are certain characteristics of the pulp. From the bleached pulp refining is conducted in the same, and determination of physical and mechanical properties of refined pulp.
