Abstract

This study aims to understand psychic trauma from the theories of Freud and Ferenczi. The authors are the starting point of the conceptualizations about the intra and inter-psychic aspects involved in the formation of trauma. From them it appears that trauma can be formed in a single moment, when a very large influx of stimuli enters the psychic apparatus and is not dominated; and/or it is formed when an experience, that in itself is not traumatic, wins this attribute later, when reorganized and reinstated in the individual's memory. Ferenczi also stresses the importance of recognition and validation of the traumatic experience by the environment. When such recognition does not happen, a greater disturbance is caused by the experience in the psychic functioning.Observing cases described in the psychoanalytic literature where trauma and its consequences are central to the treatment, this research project seeks to articulate the concepts of both authors and others who, from them, discussed the intra and inter-psychic issue involved in trauma, in order to rethink the temporality and the elements involved in the formation of psychic trauma. And through this articulation and the study of cases from the literature, the research tries to think of trauma as the extreme model of the way wich psyche deals with the stimuli it receives from the outside world.
