Abstract

The spermatecae and spermatecal glands of three species of bees will be studied:: Xylocopa suspecta (solitary), Bombus morio (primitively eusocial) and Tetragonisca angustula (highly eusocial) in order to investigate differences concerning to the morphology, and secretion compounds under histochemical techniques. A comparative study of the eletrophoretic pattern it also be done among the content of the spermatecal gland, spermatecae fluid and mucus gland secretion of the males. The aim of the study is to contribute for the understanding how the spermatecae of eusocial bees preserve the spermatozoa even for many years. (AU)
