Abstract

The purpose of this study will be evaluate, in vitro and in situ, the effects of the acids used to microabrasion of the enamel by means of microhardness and confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM) analysis. For the in vitro study, 70 specimens obtained from bovine incisors will be divided into 7 groups (n=10): G1 - no treatment (control); G2 - microabrasion with phosphoric acid 37% and pumice; G3 - microabrasion with hydrochloric acid 6,6 % and silica (Opalutre®); G4 e G5 - simulation of the abrasive procedures using only the phosphoric and hydrochloric acid, respectively, with rubber cup; G6 e G7 - application of the phosphoric and hydrochloric acid. For de in situ study, 90 new specimens will be divided into 9 groups (n=10): G1 - no treatment, (control); G2 - microabrasion with phosphoric acid 37% and pumice and G3 - microabrasion with hydrochloric acid 6,6 % and silica (Opalutre®), both without salivar exposition; G4, G5 and G6 microabrasion with phosphoric acid 37% and pumice, with 1 hour, 24 hours and 7 days of salivar exposition, respectively; G7, G8 and G9 - microabrasion with hydrochloric acid 6,6 % and silica (Opalutre®), with 1 hour, 24 hours and 7 days of salivar exposition with 1 hour, 24 hours and 7 days of salivar exposition, respectively. All the treatments will be with 10 applications with 10 seconds each. Teen volunteers will use an intraoral palatal appliance with 7 cavities to bear one specimen of each group, for 7 days. The superficial microhardness will be evaluate in all of the samples before the microabrasion, and the microhardness of the subsurface will be evaluate after the microabrasion and/or times of salivar exposition. For CLSM analysis, two specimens of each group will be select randomly.
