Long-term class II protocols treatment influence in the profile attractiveness.

Abstract

The propose of the study is to investigate the influence in long-term treatment Class II division 1 protocols in the attractiveness profile and compare the cephalometric changes after treatment and 15 years post-treatment of skeletal, soft tissue dental and soft tissue thickness. The sample will be formed by lateral cephalograms of 90 treated patients in the files of the Department of Orthodontics, School of Dentistry of Bauru, USP. Selected patients will be divided into three groups according to treatment protocol: G1 consisted of 30 patients treated with extraction of second premolars, G2 consisted of 30 patients treated with extraction of four premolars and G3 consisted of 30 patients treated without extraction . The three groups will be compatible in age, gender and PAR index pre-and post-treatment. The attractiveness of the profile will be evaluated through a website, where pictures of profiles of 180 patients (90 and 90 post-treatment 15 years post-treatment) will be evaluated by 50 orthodontists and 50 laypeople. To verify if the analysis of the profile attractiveness will be influenced by different treatment protocols of Class II division 1 and the type of evaluator, we will apply the test of the two criteria ANOVA followed by Tukey's test among three groups of samples, and two categories of evaluators. Furthermore, to observe whether gender and / or age of the raters could interfere with the attractiveness of the profile is applied to analysis of covariance (ANCOVA).
