Abstract

The research aims to investigate the Orquestra de Viola Amigos Violeiros de São Carlos, a musical institution in social non-profit. The orchestra brings together around forty people, predominantly male, engaged in the practice of Brazilian ten Strings Guitar . It is intended to study the inter-personal relationships within the group, and musical aspects of the production of the orchestra. It is a study supported in ethnomusicology and ethnographic methods that seeks to understand the meanings behind the actions of individuals involved with the institution, its representations and its music production.
