Abstract

Evaluation of the morphological and genomic diversity of different populations of Brevipalpus (Acari: Tenuipalpidae) species transmitting plant viruses and their ability as vectorThis project is related to a thematic project of Fapesp about management of citrus leprosis. The main objective is to better understand the vector/virus relationship as a contribution for the epidemiology of citrus leprosis and other Brevipalpus-transmitted viruses. Citrus leprosis is one of the most important and destructive disease in citrus industry. Up to US$ 80 millions/year is spent to chemically control the vector B. phoenicis only in the state of São Paulo. Attention will be given to the morphological and genomic diversity among populations of B. phoenicis and correlate these data with the transmission efficiency of the citrus leprosis virus C (CiLV-C). As a by product it is expected to generate information which may contribute for a better taxonomical identification of Brevipalpus species transmitting plant viruses.
