Abstract

This research investigates the academic production generated in the last ten year which dedicates itself to considering the connections between the act of reading and the library, a room for modern man's education. It seeks to locate, gather and classify this academic production in its several aspects. This work interrogates moments, places and subjects involved in its production, as well as discussions and analysis carried out by favoured theoretical options and chosen theoretical referentials. It sets out its dialogues (or not) with recent public powers' actions and initiatives towards spaces and collections used in the formation of readers. As a bibliographical research, this work searches for building an "State of Art" vision, through mapping and systematizing researches about reading which approach the theme of library. It assumes that reading is a historical, social and cultural practice; therefore, it is composed by multiple objects, spaces, shapes, meanings, etc. The thought that finds its resonance in referentials of cultural history, especially in Chartier's studies (1996 et al.). The reflections of Michéle Petit (2008), Baratin and Jacob (2000), Silva (2001) and Perrotti (2008), among others, collaborate to outline the major issue of this investigation. Likewise, those woks which devote themselves to the reflection about challenges and procedures of an "State of Art" research, such as: Soares (1989); Fiorentini (1994); Ferreira (1999); Megid (1999); Ribeiro (2011); etc. Keywords: reading, library, State of Art.
