Abstract

The search for physical systems that are suitable to quantum information processing has been intensified in the last few years. The main obstacle that needs to be overcome is decoherence. Because of that obstacle, the use of nontraditional quantum states (such as topological states) has been proposed. Recently a great deal of attention has been given to Majorana states, since they would be inherently protected against the most common set of errors. We propose to study the additional decoherence mechanism that can occur to Majorana qubits. The main objective of this proposal is to determine and characterize these sources of errors, with special attention to Caldeira-Leggett type of environments.
