Abstract Rodents are considered resistent to leptospirosis while hamsters and guinea pig are suscetible. Few studies investigated the immune mechanisms that are triggered during this infection.ADLER & FAINE (1976) demonstrated that this resistance is dependent on acquired immune response since cyclophosphamide treated mice became suscetible to this infection by L. interrogans sorovar Pomona. Other researchers showed that C3H/SCID mice carrying severe combined immunodeficiency die after injection of L. interrogans sorovar Copenhageni.Considering that the complement system is crucial to elimination of this pathogen we will investigate if C5 deficient mice are more susceptible to infection by Leptospira interrogans sorovar Pomona isolado Fromm. We will use A/J e DBA (C5 deficient) e C57 Black/6 e Balb/c (C5 suficient)mice to study this infection in vivo. So far there is no study that investigate the real role of the complement system to this infection in vivo. | |
