Abstract

The increase in production is the goal of any breeding, the selection pressure for animals that produce more in less time, leads the animals to their physiological limit. The intensive exploitation of females of any species for milk production, exposes them to greater risk of developing diseases typical of the period of lactation, especially mastitis. Mastitis, beyond the discomfort that brings to the animal, it also reduces the producer's profit for not selling the milk. Early diagnosis is critical to the efficient control of infection and ultrasound may aid in the diagnosis of asymptomatic mastitis, allowing treatment before it brings harm to animals and the economy. In this work will be used 30 Saanen goats in reprodutive age, divided into three groups: healthy (GS, n=10), animals with the asymptomatic form (GA, n=10) and animals with the clinical form (GC, n=10). They will be subject to clinical and laboratorial correlating the results with B and doppler ultrasonography pattern of the mammary gland and the default tests. Data will be expressed as mean ± standard deviation and will be submitted to analysis of variance (ANOVA) and linear regression for correlation between the ultrasound data, clinical and laboratory evaluation used the statistical package GraphPad Prism 4.
