Abstract

This work aims to investigate the place of the materiality in the clinical work of the pediatric and psychoanalyst D. W. Winnicott, investigating his theoretical papers and discussing the case called Piggle. Having this aim, first of all we will follow a hermeneutical way of studying the main theoretical texts in which the author shows his conception about the materiality in the constitution of the self and its implication to the clinical situation. Afterwards we will focus on the sessions with the Piggle as our main text, having in mind the clinical work that is inaugurated by Winnicott contributions on the importance of the materiality, which shows the importance of the gesture and of the human corporeality on the constitution od the self in the presence of the other.
