Abstract

The main objective of this project is the investigation of the possible relationship between the biomechanics developed by Vsevolod E. Meyerhold and the actor's work at the Brazilian "circus-theatre" of the first half of the century XX, in order to perceive and rescue principles, concepts, procedures and techniques that can feed the contemporary actor's work.In the mid-nineteenth century, the "circus-theatre" came from Europe to Brazil and here took its own Brazilian shape. It cemented a series of aesthetic, technical and poetic principles - and those specifically related to the actor's work are one of the objects of this research.The other object of investigation is the biomechanics, - developed by the Russian Meyerhold, one of the builders of modern theatrical thinking - a specific training for the actor. For the director, the biomechanics is an attempt to systematize through training some of the qualities and principles considered paramount to the art of the actor.We will make an analytical and reflective research about these practices through: literature review, field research, interviews with researchers and specialized artists. Therefore, we will investigate the distances and possibilities of complementation / supplementation of these two matrices in the actor's work, in order to realize the principles, techniques, procedures and concepts that can contribute to the work of the contemporary actor.
