Abstract

From the analysis of different speeches, which feed themselves on each other, creating a polyphonic circularity, it is possible to observe the conformation of a determinate culture, which can be exposed through different texts and backgrounds or through a single narrative containing this plurality as a whole. This approach is also possible when it concerns juridical culture, for the juridical speech is not an semantic group exclusive to those who detain a law degree, as well as the institutional body from law school. On the contrary, it permeates society widely, expresses through different lines, demonstrates and foments the dialog between the interlocutors.This interaction is one of the viable forms of constructing history, mainly, the history of a though, in this case, juridical, and so, to reveal the juridical culture of a certain space-temporal cutting.To the discursive research proposed, and consequent culmination on the shape of the juridical culture of an époque, it is elected the end of the ninetieth century, from which is extracted the abolitionist question, above all revealed by the analysis of the nine first chronicles of the series Bons Dias! [Good Morning!], by Machado de Assis, published between April and May 1888, and the periodic in which it is inserted, the Gazeta de Notícias [News' Gazette]. (AU)
