Abstract

Despite the existing studies that evaluated the action of light on the inflammatory process, the exact mechanism of action after the tissue irradiation with light emitting diodes (LED)is still unclear, especially for the pulp tissue. Thus, the purpose of this study will be to evaluate the effects of 855 nm LED irradiation on primary culture of pulp cells, focusing on the expression and synthesis of inflammatory mediators. Primary cultures of pulp cells obtained from healthy human deciduous teeth will be grown on acrylic plates and contaminated with lipopolysaccharides (LPS). The cultures will then be submitted to the irradiation with a 855 nm LED. Different doses of energy will be used in order to obtain a dose-response curve. To evaluate the inflammatory cytokines produced by the cells, a kit containing 36 Antibody Arrays cytokines that participate in the inflammatory process in human tissues will be used. Additionally, RT-PCR tests will be performed to evaluate the expression of genes encoding for sialoprotein (DSP) and cytokines demonstrated in the first test. Statistical tests will be selected according with the type of response variable and the characteristics of each data set. The statistical inferences will be based on a significant level of 5%.
