Abstract

This project has as main objective the analysis and transformation of the particular conception of man among the Maya highlands and lowlands during the long process of Castilian conquest of these two regions, particularly between 1524 and 1697, they are referring to the dates first conquest in the land the Maya and that which would have been the ultimate achievement. This goal is subdivided into two central objectives. The first specific objective is to analyze the large ruptures and continuities of human conception of the Maya during the process of conquest. To this end, we analyze sources of the Colonial Period Maya in search of ideas pre-colonial and colonial, supporting us to make such a separation, in the literature about the pre-Colonial and Colonial. The second specific goal is also to examine the differences in the design of human between highlands and lowlands. To this end, we analyze sources that come from both highland and lowland, and of course the support of the literature.For these objectives we work two central assumptions. The first that we find significant differences between the conceptions of human to the Mayan pre-colonial and colonial. And the second hypothesis, similar to the first, proposes that also find significant differences between the conceptions of human to the Maya highlands and lowlands. Within this hypothesis, we believe that we can find ideas, not just a concept, than is the man for these Maya Colonial Period. Such differences in worldview, both high and low lands between and among the pre-Colonial and Colonial have been apparently overlooked by some authors. It is common to use sources to portray the colonial Mayan pre-colonial thought, dismissing in part the significant changes that occur between the two portions of land between these two periods and in various areas of the Mayan worldview.
