Abstract

This research discusses the transformation of the labor process in modernization of architecture in São Paulo throughout the twentieth century.We will seek to investigate the work of professionals and dynamics of production in the workshops and factories specialized in the manufacture of stained glass, windows and frames for the Municipal Theater (1903 - 1911) and the MASP (1957-1968) buildings, as the Arts and Crafts School of São Paulo. By comparing both buildings, we intent to articulate the transformations of architectural production and the agents involved in the design and construction of the architectural object, at the light of the modernization of civil construction and architecture fields, with a method diachronic and synchronic.From the skilled labor of the workers responsible for making frames that make use of glass, the research aims to analyze: the professional organization in the construction industry through journals and research literature, the drawings of architectural designs, the quality of their prescription, contracts between companies, photographs of construction sites and workshops, and changes in construction techniques, besides dwelling on a bibliography placed on labor history, technology and architecture of São Paulo.
