Abstract

Mammary tumors are the most common neoplasm in female dog. On average affects bitches with eight to ten years old, intact or who were underwent to ovariohysterectomy procedure later. The treatment for most breast tumors is surgical excision. Several techniques of mastectomy, since lumpectomy until bilateral radical mastectomy are described. The unilateral resection of the mammary gland is the procedure most often performed in middle aged bitches in veterinary practice. The excessive pain is very common in the postoperative period. Currently, the technique of tumescent anesthesia has been used in veterinary medicine as a technical adjunct to general anesthesia in mastectomy procedure. This technique is used to provide intraoperative analgesia and brings other benefits such as significant reduction in bleeding and facilitates the removal in block mammary chain. Thus, this study aims to assess pain intra and postoperative in bitches subjected to procedure of unilateral radical mastectomy under effect of tumescent anesthesia. Will be used two groups of ten, of which, the first group will receive only conventional inhalation anesthesia, and second, the tumescence anesthesia. These animals will be accompanied by 24 hours after surgery and the pain will be evaluated by pain scale at the University of Melbourne. (AU)
