Abstract

Urinary infections cause serious economic losses to the Brazilian swine industry related to mortality, sows disposal, and antimicrobial costs. In Brazil, studies about the molecular characterization of Escherichia coli strains are rare, such as the evaluation of resistance patterns. The present study has the goal of characterizing virulence factors in E. coli isolated in urine samples of sows and determining the phylogenetic profile and the resistance pattern against antimicrobials used in swine production.(AU)
