Abstract

The epyllion Europa by Moschus from Siracuse has one third of its contents occupied by an ekphrastic scene. Moschus apparently built a non-linear version of the mith of Io. It is been discussed if this seeming disordering has something to do about the spacial factor of the object (a basket) or if Moschus wanted to create some emphasis on some especific part of the ekphrasis. Another important aspect is that related to the Moschus intention to coordenate the framing narrative with the minor ekprasis narrative. The aim of this project is to discuss why and by what means Moschus created a non-linear version of the mith.
