Maximum bite force analysis, according to age groups

Abstract

The maximum bite force is the maximum force performed by the subject on the fragmentation of food, directly related to the mastication and determined by many factors, mainly by the interaction between the anatomical structures involved with this function. Objective: analyze the maximum bite force of subjects, according to age groups, determined by Mayoral et al (1971).Method: The sample will consist of 100 individuals, from the city of São Paulo, of which 60 individuals will represent the adolescence age group - 10 women (between 11 and 13 years old) and 10 men (between 12 and 14 years old) for the pre-puberty period; 10 women (between 13 and 15 years old) and 10 men (between 14 and 16 years old) for the puberty period, and 10 women (between 15 and 18 years old) and 10 men (between 16 and 20 years old) for the post-number period -; 20 individuals representing the youth group - 10 women (between 18 and 25 years old) and 10 men (between 20 and 25 years old) -; and 20 individuals representing the young adult period - 10 women and 10 men (between 25 and 60 years old). Each individual will be submitted to a monotherapy evaluation composed of anthropometric measurements evaluation of height and weight, using a tape and a digital scale (Magna, G-life), and a dental condition and maximum bite force evaluation, using a digital dynamometer model DDK/M (Kratos, São Paulo, Brazil), on N scale. The dental and bite force evaluations will be monitored by a professional from the area. After the computation of data, they will be submitted to statistical analysis.(AU)
