Abstract

The goal of this project is to characterize asphalthenes in natural oil as well as asphalthenes diluted in solvents that induce their precipitation. The first step involves literature review, training with instruments to be used, documentation of materials and reagents needed, and sample preparation. Afterwards, spectroscopic characterization of the sample will be performed, including electronic spectroscopy (UV-visible and fluorescence), vibrational (FTIR and Raman), and correlation (dynamic light scattering and diffusing wave spectroscopy) measurements. Finally, the samples will also be characterized under the same conditions to be used in the high-pressure cell experiments of asphalthene precipitation. (AU)
