Abstract This project proposes the development of a new approach to allow a more efficient application of techniques to estimate the oscillation modes in the response of a power system to small perturbations. This approach will be based in the insertion of probing signals, at strategically selected places in the system. The mentioned estimation will be carried out using sampled data from the simulated response of large interconnected power systems, and will be developed with certain practical criteria in mind, in order to enable its future application in the field. Furthermore, the results of this sampling process will also be used by algorithms for linear model identification, with the objective of improving the state-space model of the system. In this project, the definition of the places for application of the probing signals will be oriented by information extracted from the concepts of "mode shapes" and modal controlability and observability, which should result in reducing the minimum energy needed for a correct estimation of the modes of interest in the system. This reinforces the originality of the project, highlighting the fact that the proposed method is minimally invasive (a feature that is highly desirable in power systems). A succesful conclusion of this project will allow a cross-validation between the methods of small-signal stability analysis, based on linearized parametric models and on techniques of modal estimation, being of great value for the mentioned analysis since it will enable an improvement of the state-space models associated to the mentioned linearized methods. | |
