Abstract

This work, highly experimental, aims to study some general performance characteristics of the mortar coating applied to masonry panels, due to the substitution of part of fine aggregate for three different particle size rubber tires. These performance characteristics will be studied: permeability, impact resistance, surface resistance and susceptibility to cracking. The three different particle sizes of rubber will be named: Fine (# 0.075 mm), medium (# 1.19 mm) and coarse (# 2.38 mm), and this rubber from the tire retreading process. With respect to the experimental program, the permeability test is critical for determining the tightness of the seal system and the level of protection that the coating should provide the basis against the action of rain or water washing of the building. The impact resistance test will be used to assess the ability of the coating is to provide safe operation and ensure its performance after the shock, physically and visually during his lifetime. Since the test surface resistance is important because it is related to aesthetic functions and the compatibility of the mortar coating paint system or other final covering. Finally, the susceptibility to cracking test will detect the existence of cracks in the coatings over time. Considering that, after conducting a series of experimental tests, may be seen the main influences on the use of different particle size of tire rubber in mortar coating. Where the application of rubber from the retreading products for construction, results in mitigating the impact caused by waste tires, and provides a niche market involving concern for the environment, and that here was consolidated with the transfer productive sector of the knowledge generated at the university.
