Abstract

The human survival depends on the use of alternative energy sources. The processes that implicate in use of any kind of energy make wastes, in fact, using water produces wastewater. It should pay attention that wastewater treatment is primordial for human's health maintenance and life quality. There are a lot of options for wastewater treatment, one of them is the use of stabilization pond, in this case, there is sludge generation, which is, mostly, composed by water organics wastes. The sludge can pass through physical-chemical treatment (flocculation and settling), this process depends on coagulant dosage and application of a sludge blanket settler flocculator, segregating the solid and liquid parts, this can be one of the alternatives for sludge treatment. Coagulant dosage will be based on results of the jar-test. Therefore, it's expected the results from this research: getting the ideal coagulant dosage and hydraulic detention time in the sludge blanket settler flocculator in pilot scale. Such parameters are fundamental in qualitative correlations for using in scale-up process. The detention time and coagulant dosage will be base in the determination of the sludge blanket settler flocculator performance in liquid solid phase separation.
