Abstract

Jugular thrombosis in horses frequently occurs in iatrogenic situations, secondary to endotoxemia frames and disseminated intravascular coagulation, which might lead to death. Preventive treatment with antithrombotic agents has reduced the severity and frequency of cases. However, there are situations in which the chronicity, with strong adhesion to the vessel thrombosis, drug therapy may be unsatisfactory necessitating surgical intervention. The objective of this study is evaluate the applicability of thrombectomy with Vollmar Ring Stripper and observe the passage of the Fogarty catheter through the thrombus adhered, even without full realization of this thrombectomy. Will be use 10 healthy horses, divided in two groups (5 animals each) and these were treated with Vollmar Ring Stripper(VRS) and the Fogarty Catheter (FC) after induced unilateral right jugular thrombosis. For twenty-two days, the animals will be evaluated at specific times, as the physical, laboratory, ultrasound and venography, comprising four evaluation periods: pre-induction phlebitis (PIP); induction period phlebitis maintained (PM), which has 72 hours of the duration, the period of thrombophlebitis (TP), where the animals will be evaluated for seven days, and after applying the correction techniques of thrombosis, the postoperative period (PO). It is estimated using a new instrument in thrombectomy and the possible activation of vascular recanalization after Fogarty Catheter and the thrombus, considered to remain whole or partial thrombus in chronic phase.
