Abstract

This research project aims to contribute to the understanding of plural forms, which consist of the concurrent use of different organizational forms in governance of similar transaction, endowed with the same attributes. This phenomenon challenges the discriminating alignment hypothesis developed by Williamson (1996), in that it predicts the convergence of these transactions to a single governance structure, the most efficient one. A study on the motivations underlying this strategy is proposed. In particular, the hypothesis of efficiency and bargain are analyzed as motivators of plural forms. For the development of the research, first a theoretical approach based on the New Institutional Economics will be conducted and complemented by the presentation of empirical evidence. To this end, we intend to conduct a survey in companies whose supply chains present plural forms. The primary data collected will be analyzed using the qualitative comparative analysis technique, which will be held with the assistance of "Tosmana" software, which uses boolean algebra to solve the logical expressions that, in turn, reveal the determinants for the establishment the observed outcome (plural forms).
