Abstract

Worldwide, breast cancer is a major public health problem since about 300.000 women die each year and incidence rate continues to rise. In Colombia, is considered one of the most common cancer diseases in women, after uterine and skin cancer. The canines have shown similarity in evolution and biological growth of breast cancer, shared biochemical, epidemiological, clinical, pathological and treatment response aspects. Molecular markers applied to the tissues allow a prognosis of malignancy and classify patients according to their chance to support a chemotherapeutic treatment and improve their life expectancy. In this study we used cases of Colombian's canine mammary gland neoplasms, which have a clinical post-surgical follow-up, allowing to correlate the expression of tumor markers with survival of animals. It is proposed here the immunological detection of markers associated with cellular senescence it would be first tested in canines, opening the best research route, considering that cell death is a key aspect of the investigation delivered directly to breast cancer therapy. This can be corroborated in the present studies in humans, try to explore whether decreasing the activity of enzymes that act at the G1 phase of the cell cycle, can reduce the critical point to trigger senescence in cells activated by oncogens. Moreover, it is expected to strengthen research activities between universities in Brazil and Colombia to promote the production of knowledge, building capacity for scientific and technological development of the countries.
