Abstract

The sugar cane has an important role in the economy of country. Because of the questions related the reduction of greenhouse effect gases, in the past years there has been increased demand of ethanol. The microregion of Presidente Prudente (SP) corresponds to 4,79% of the area planted with sugar cane in the state of São Paulo, considered the largest producer. The monoculture of sugar cane caused significant changes in the regional landscape and in this context that the mapping through satellite images for monitoring the expansion of sugar cane present potential for routine activity. This work has as objective map the expansion of sugar cane in the microregion of Presidente Prudente (SP), through images of the Landsat5 TM sensor. To achieve the research objective, will be necessary to perform a set of methodological procedures, among them stand out: bibliographic survey on the theme, data collection and digital image processing. This way, it is expected that the research will contribute assisting government agencies with regard to public policy intervention and, especially, environmental in relation to the monoculture of sugar cane.
