Abstract

The starting point for this project is the following statement: contemporary Man pulsates over the characteristics and circumstances of their time, which is singular in human history. As this is a unique era, would it not be appropriate to think or rethink education according to that singularity? In which sense would we think of the education of contemporary Man, embedded as they are in the uniqueness of their time? In short, which challenges are posed to education and how to tackle them? These questions became relevant after the course of trying to understand the changes that happened in the last century, from which our above-mentioned starting point derives. The journey through these innovations of the 20th century took me three years, time in which I carried out my master's research at the State University of Campinas, with a scholarship granted by the São Paulo Research Foundation. In a similar fashion, another starting point drives the proposal of this project and is brought about by the challenge posed to the education of contemporary Man, that is, rethinking the categories of totality. One is talking about the appealing, and ever more pertinent, invitation from philosophy, here understood as logic of multiplicity, to think the event of education. Thus, the project intends to act at the crossroads of these two appeals made to the education of Man (the appeal to the historical circumstances and to the philosophy of multiplicity) since both of them aim at the same target: discussing the fundamentals through which educational thought has conceived the education of Man. In turn, such an articulation will be made via Michel Serres's philosophy, where it is possible to identify in advance the conditions for such a partnership. This may be done considering his philosophy of multiplicity invites education to rethink the categories of totality, as a path that leads to welcoming difference, as well as grasping the potentialities of this new epoch in the life of contemporary Man.
