Abstract

Within the scope of bioenergy production studies, this project will be directed to assessing a mechanically stirred anaerobic sequencing batch reactor containing immobilized biomass (AnSBBR) applied to the treatment of effluent from an acidogenic reactor. The acidogenic reactor effluent will result from sucrose based synthetic wastewater treatment in the production of biohydrogen, consisting, likely, of the main intermediate compounds of anaerobic metabolism (mainly ethanol and butanol, acetic, propionic and butyric acid). In this work the following will be assessed: production of biogas (methane and carbon dioxide), reactor stability and efficiency the when subjected to increased organic load, which will be modified as a function of increasing influent concentration.
