Abstract

The speech language literature turns to work with actors concerned, centrally, with organic issues involved in vocal process, as "ill-use" or "voice abuse". To a lesser extent, there is in the same literature, works that focus issues about interpretation and expressive resources, as beyond few that contrast the linguistic resources of interpretation. Aiming to take into the field of speech-language studies contributions of linguistic-discursive studies, this research intends to focus on one linguistic resource: pause. To develop it, will be analyzed audio recordings of four actors, from a same theater group, playing the scenic text Brutas flores. In the analysis, we will observe: (1) the place of occurrence of these pauses, as well as its physics features of length; (2) how these pauses would have character of hesitation, considering its place of occurrence; (3) how the actors explore the non-hesitated and hesitated character to produce meaning effects in their interpretation. Benefits extracted from studies of acoustic nature and discursive nature provide explanations for the future results of research. (AU)
