Abstract

Thanks to the Historical Epistemology proposed by Gaston Bachelard, Georges Canguilhem accomplished the assignment that French historians seemed to abandon, recognizing their failure. By defining the object of the history of science as a cultural object, Canguilhem finally historicized the sciences. The reconstruction of this journey through Canguilhem's works on Epistemology and History of Sciences represents one of the most important chapters in the intellectual history of modern scientific historiography. Such investigation will allow the insertion of this research in the collective work that historians engaged decades ago, since they realized that the historicizing of science required not only a new understanding of the sciences, but also a new understanding of history.
