Abstract

Since the 1950s and 60s, images to disseminate the city of Florianópolis - capital of Santa Catarina - started to be produced, in order to project it to an imagined future. The current images follow a similar pattern, suggesting a city away from the present, because they not only design it in the future, but also disclose a past that no longer exists, thus expressing a spatial and temporal lack of context by presenting a fictional territory to the viewer. I propose to search advertising images that intend to promote the town touristically and which are produced by actors with the same intention. These images make up the urban imaginary of Florianopolis, which has been historically constituted, always within the political context of the time, which defines and guides the choice of images to be disclosed. In this sense, the objective of this research project is to analyze the relationship between the divulgation images of Florianopolis and the direction of urban planning, especially the tourism-oriented. As an initial research hypothesis, I suppose that the historical absence of the present in the city's imaginary is influencing the direction of their own urban and touristic planning, since the city of images is overlapping the ephemeral city. After all, the focus on tourism as the "salvation" of the city already is part of Florianópolis imaginary.
