Abstract Well-known and controversial is the history of Thomas More (1478-1535). Eminent historical person, his execution, ordered by the same King of whom he had been a close friend for years, certainly provoked that the mere mention of his name was not comfortable in the political universe ruled by Henry VIII's daughter. Surprisingly, shortly after his death, a play entitled The Booke of Sir Thomas More circulated among the theatre spaces of the Elizabethan Era. Attributed to many writers, the play dramatizes the life of this relevant historical character that, however, in addition of being proscribed in the Elizabethan political universe, he was not a member of the Royal English house. The project aims are to do an annotated translation of this intriguing play, Sir Thomas More. As well, its object is to study its relations to its historical and dramatic period. Especially, because it is one of the few plays that touches on fundamental Elizabethan issues and topics, overlooked by the acquainted canon, although, extremely important matters to understand the period that produced them.
