Abstract

The purpose of this project is the study of the aspects of the interaction between matter and light, which is important to understanding the Bose-Einstein condensation cooling process and other related phenomena. We will start with the classical treatment of the problem. After that, we will initiate a semiclassical treatment to analyze the properties of the atoms in alternating optical molasses. The theory developed in this project will be important to characterize the technique of alternating molasses, enabling its future implementation in the experiments.(AU)
