Abstract

In recent years, our laboratory has dominated the optical dipole trap technique. Currently, daily samples were produced from trapped atomic species using a high power laser at 1,06 microns. Such samples have about 106 atoms trapped in a density of 1012 atoms / cm3, and temperatures lower than 20 ¼K. Currently, the trapped sample is the starting point of any modern experiment in atomic physics. The goal of this project is to use our optical dipole trap to trap atoms of K and Rb simultaneously, photoassociate them forming a trapped molecule (KRb). Then, optical pumping processes will be used to produce molecules in the fundamental vibrational state of the electronic ground potential. This sample may be used to study molecular collisions. (AU)
