Abstract

On the novels "L´altro figlio" and "La Mèrica" the writers Luigi Pirandello e Maria Messina employ e consolidate the "figure" as a mother tropical within the Italian literature of the first phase of nine hundred, presumably in an attempt to establish a relationship between the mother metaphorically lonely and abandoned by her husband or sons, who sailed to America, and the catastrophic social reallidade Italian post-unified and trauma due to mass emigration. How is this construction of this mother/Italy within the narrative to be analyzed and historical aspects of Italian social reality this supposed relationship is intended to represent metaphorically?
