Abstract

Increasing demand for renewable fuels is important to stimulate the development of crops producing ethanol in Brazil, as Jatropha. However, knowledge of nutritional requirements of Jatropha is a priority, to ensure the yield of biomass and energy. The aim will be to evaluate the effects of deficiency and macronutrients uptake by Jatropha, as well as correlating its effects with the physiological and biochemical attributes in order to predict early plant nutritional status. Nutrient solutions containing all macronutrients (check) and those from which one of these elements is omitted will be the treatments used. Moreover, for the study of nutrient uptake the plants will be grown in complete solution (Experiment 1). The experimental design related to Experiment 2 is the randomized complete block with split plots arrangement, with four replications in which plots correspond to the treatments and the subplots to the assessment times. The weekly assays in Experiment 2 are: plant height, stem diameterand the indirect determination of chlorophyll content (SPAD values). Besides, biochemical assessments of nitrate reductase, acid phosphatase, and the diamine putrescina, photosynthetic rate and stomatal conductance in leaves used for leaf analysis will be made. It will be determined macronutrient accumulation in plant parts, the longdistance transport, total number of leaves, total leaf area and total dry matter production.
