Abstract This paper aims to research and analyze power relations involving the monarchy and the Cortes (1590-1598) in Spain, focusing in Castile during the reign of Philip II (1556-1598). Due to the extensive documentation available on the Cortes, the cut defined by this project will be the last Cortes of this period. That's when the conflicts between the king and proctors have become more intense and more radical discourses take shape, mainly due to financial problems faced by the Crown. This research aims to develop a study on the sphere of power in modern Spain from the analysis of the political configuration of the monarchy and its relations with other powers, in the specific case of the project, the Cortes, which also involves the struggle for political discourse, mobilized around the interests pursued by the two institutions. Thus, this proposal aims to investigate the polítical representations built by the Cortes, and see how it fits into the culture and political thought in sixteenth-century Spain. | |
