PERFORMANCE OF RUBBER TREE ORTETS IN THE PROGENIES TESTES AND THEIR RESPECTIVE RAMETS

Abstract

Rubber tree [Hevea brasiliensis (Willd. ex. Adr. de Juss.) Müell-Arg.] major source of natural rubber in the world, has a breeding cycle of about 20 to 30 years until it can be recommended for comercial cultivation. Thus, it is necessary to develop new strategies to successfully reduce this cycle. In order to verify if theres a relationship between the ortets selected in progenies tests and their ramets, thus being able to assess the potential production of young rubber plants. The design of progeny test randomized blocks with 5 replications and plots consisting of 10 plants, spaced 2,0 x 2,0 m. The same experiment was conducted at three sites. Best ortets, selected on progenies test were to clone trial in Small-Scale Clone Trial(SSCT)conducted in two sites. Experimental design is randomized blocks with three replication and plots consisting of 6 plants in two sites. The progeny tests were conducted at the Regional Centers of Votuporanga, Pindorama and Jaú, of Agência Paulista de Tecnologia dos Agronegócios (APTA). The clonal trial was conducted at the Poles and Regional Jau Mococa, both belonging to the APTA. Will be evaluated the production of rubber, the grith annual increases, number of latex vessel rings and bark thickness. Will be estimated genetic and phenotypic components of variance, performed heritabilities, percentage of gains and the and the indices of coincidence for different selection intensities. Then with theses estimates, will be obtained correlations between the performance of ortetes with the performance of their respective ramets in clonal trial.
