Abstract

This project aims to analyze the changes in the eighteenth century in relation to the valuation of manual labor. Therefore, it was chosen as a case study, the Brotherhood of São José dos Quatro Ofícios Anexos, located in the town of Recife, Pernambuco captaincy, founded around 1735. From the documentary survey partially conducted during the research of Undergraduate Research, it was revealed that after the rise of the Marquis de Pombal to power and implementation of new guidelines governing the internal organization of the Brotherhood in question has undergone significant changes. Therefore, this project aims to analyze the Brotherhood mentioned in the context of the changes promoted by the government Pombaline between the years 1750 and 1777, trying to identify and understand the social role of these officers during the mechanical part of the implementation of these reforms and the degree of valuation of manual labor this phase of history of the Old Regime.
